He woke with a tongue the size of a cement truck and about as heavy as well. The only difference being that it was furry, not rough and ready to support a building. Rolling over slowly, Dave felt the entire world spin five times faster and five times more than he had. Fuck, what had he done the night before?

“Drink this,” a soft voice commanded, a glass of something floating somewhere in front of him.

Rubbing his crusty eyes, Dave tried to focus on the glass first, the person holding it a moment later. Recognizing Lindsie, he smiled and forced himself to sit up and accept whatever it was she was offering to him. She kissed his forehead and retreated to the small bistro table in the suite. Sipping the liquid, Dave made a face. Whatever the concoction that she gave him was, it was completely foul, or maybe that was just the fact he was so fucking hungover anything was foul. Remaining seated in the bed until he had downed half of whatever, Dave slowly inched towards the edge of the mattress, looking over at the petite woman sitting across the room. She didn’t glance up at all, her eyes remaining focused on the newspaper in her hand, her lips daintily munching on fruit. For a long moment, he just sat there, watching her. Every little movement of hers was graceful, was perfect, was – fuck, she was his now, his for all eternity.

A grin on his face, Dave finally stood and made his way over to the table. Her eyes left the paper as he slipped onto the chair beside her, eying him warily as he continued to grin at her. Setting the paper down, she reached for an empty coffee cup, poured the dark, hot liquid into it, and traded the coffee for the glass in his hand, no questions asked. Dave opened his mouth to speak, but she shook her head, motioning for him to drink first.

Obeying, he felt the acrid liquid slid down his throat a moment later. Closing his eyes and leaning back in the chair, Dave waited for the caffeine to infuse his blood. As he sat there, he felt the coffee cup gently pulled from his fingers, a fork replacing such. As he opened his eyes, she removed the stainless steel dome from the breakfast plate in front of him.

“Oh, baby,” he groaned as his eyes hit the plate, his stomach not entirely sure if it wanted food or not.

“Eat,” she instructed.

His eyes flicked to hers, “How is it that I earned you?”

Smiling, Lindsie touched his cheek lovingly, “I don’t know. But you need to eat before we can go anywhere, do anything.”

“Anything?” his eyebrows rose.

“Anything,” she nodded. “And you need to shower too.”

His eyes flicked down, noticing that she was not wearing the summery white dress he last remembered her wearing. Instead she wore a fitted gray tee shirt and jeans. He was certain if he leaned over to kiss her, should she even allow that, she would smell as sweet as rose. Clearly she had rebounded from their drunkenness much sooner than he had.

“How long have you been up?” he asked.

She pointed at the plate, waiting for him to comply before answering, “Little over two hours. I wasn’t about to wake your drunk ass up. So I showered, went on a walk, talked with Nate, rescheduled our appointment once again, called and left my mom a message about us being married, called your mom and broke it to her as well, and then came back and ordered breakfast.”

“Youcalledmymom?” he muttered with a mouthful of egg.

Lindsie nodded, “I did. She kinda already knew we were going to do it like we did. She’s planning a barbecue for us when we return to LA.”

Dave smiled crookedly and swallowed his bite, “You’re going back to LA with me?”

“Uh, honey, we’re married. Of course I am.”

“Well I thought you would want to stay here,” he reached for his coffee cup.

“I can’t imagine a life in Atlantic City being better than LA.”

“No no. Stay here on the East Coast.”

Lindsie shrugged, “I’ll be done with school soon, Dave. I can go anywhere then. And if that means LA, then I’ll go to LA.”

“Well let’s not make that decision just yet. I still have the house in Virginia,” he responded, reaching for a slice of toast.

“But your band and your daughter live in LA,” she pointed out.

“Both easily changed,” he assured her. “We’ll do whatever is best.”

“Well whatever,” Lindsie responded. “Finish your breakfast so we can head to the tattoo parlor. Hopefully without the entire band along with us.”

Pushing the blond drummer aside, Dave glared at him. This really was meant to be an intimate affair, just him and his new wife. Apparently the band did not agree, or at least Taylor hadn’t and the other two were just being dragged everywhere he went. He would need to pull Chris and Nate aside at some point and plead with them to keep Taylor locked up so that he could actually spend time with Lindsie without the band.

Slipping onto the stool on the opposite side of the tattoo chair, Dave’s fingers intertwined with Lindsie’s. Her eyes went to his and she smiled before closing her eyes as the buzz of the tattoo needle filled the small space. Dave was rather surprised that her hand tightened on his when the needle touched her skin. Lindsie was tattooed already, she certainly wasn’t an ink virgin. That alone made him surprised that she was nervous.

Lifting her hand to his lips, Dave kissed her palm gently, “You okay?”

She nodded, but didn’t open her eyes or say anything.

“I love you.”

Opening her eyes, she met his and muttered, “I love you too.”

A few minutes later the tattooist set down his tools, informing Lindsie that the ring was complete. She took a deep breath and opened her eyes, looking down at her hand. Based upon the heart motif Dave already had tattooed on his left middle finger, Lindsie’s new tattoo centered around a heart-shaped locket, tiny silver chains creating the band that looped around. Modifying Dave’s heart into a locket had been Lindsie’s idea and as they both looked at the fresh tattoo for a moment, Dave couldn’t help but be a bit choked up about it. Where had this woman been all his life?

Switching seats, Dave chatted happily with the tattooist as Lindsie settled on the stool, her eyes fastened upon her ring. Not entirely sure how to read her focus, Dave chose to focus his attention on the act of being inked again. Before too long he had a key tattooed upon his ring finger, based upon a key doodle Lindsie had done after they decided upon tattooing their rings, a silver chain looping around his finger similar to hers.

With the buzz of the needle no longer tempering the studio, Dave shifted out of the chair, thanked the tattooist, and reached for his wife’s hand. The parlor’s receptionist lead the couple out to the lobby, where Chris and Nate sat, perusing magazines. Taylor bounded out behind everyone, jabbering about something or other. After a couple of pictures of the fresh tattoos, both Dave and Lindsie’s fingers were covered with salve and wrapped up. Smiling Lindsie stretched up and kissed Dave before allowing him to pay for their art.

“Come along, boys,” she muttered, heading towards the door.

Both Nate and Chris silently obeyed, Taylor remaining behind with Dave. Shaking her head, Lindsie frowned slightly. Nate was the first to notice.

“You didn’t think you were marrying an entire band, did you?”

“No,” she responded. “I don’t mind that you guys have this great bond and all, but... don’t you think it’s a bit much?”

“It would be ten times worse if we allowed Taylor to come out here alone,” Chris pointed out.

“Well fine,” Lindsie commented. “Do you think you could keep him away from us for the rest of the day?”

“Oh sure,” Nate responded. “We’re actually taking him to the airport in an hour.”

“You are?”

He smiled crookedly, “Yeah. He doesn’t know yet. But we’ll get him back to LA and let you two lovebirds enjoy the newlywed status.”

“It’s the least we can do,” Chris added.

“Well thanks, guys,” she responded as Dave and Taylor exited the parlor.

Dave instantly approached his wife, his arms circling hers, “So you okay?”

She smiled at him, “Of course I am. I’m married to four men now. My family is going to freak out about that.”

Chuckling, he glanced at his band mates, “That does not mean you get marital relations with my woman, guys.”

“DAMMIT!” Taylor responded.

“Uh huh,” Lindsie rolled her eyes. “Let’s walk back to the hotel, Dave.”

“Hey, we’ll catch up with you guys later,” Chris grabbed Taylor’s shirt to keep him from falling instep with Dave and Lindsie.

“But—”

“Exactly,” Nate stood between Dave and Taylor. “We’ll take a cab and give you a call later.”

“But—”

“TAYLOR,” Chris pulled him towards the cab Nate had hailed, “get in the fucking cab. Let Dave and his bride be for awhile.”

Walking down the sidewalk actually alone, Dave muttered, “I didn’t think we were going to get a moment alone.”

“They’re taking him back to LA,” Lindsie spoke up.

“Oh?”

“Yeah. No more Taylor for us.”

Dave grinned, “Goooood. I want you all to myself.”

“Mmmmhmmmm?” she stepped closer to him. “For what reasons, Mr. Grohl?”

“Well I would like to—”

“Wait. Is that my cell phone?” Lindsie interrupted, pulling out of his arms to dig her phone out of her pocket. “Oh, fuck. It’s my mom.”

Dave took the phone from her and answered it, “Good afternoon, Mrs. Edwards. I just wanted to thank you for—”

It’s Dr. Edwards to you, Mr. Grohl. And put my daughter on the phone. I don’t want to speak with someone like you.

He instantly frowned, removing the phone from his ear. Lindsie’s eyes read his face, trying to ascertain what her mother had said to him. He repeated her words in a mutter. Without even a thought, Lindsie slipped her phone out of Dave’s hand and hung up. She had absolutely no reason to speak to her family if that was how they were going to treat her husband. Ever.

Comments

Oh noes! Dave's already in trouble with the mother-in-law!

I really enjoyed this - I didn't think we'd see Dave and Lindsie again so soon. Awesome hangover detail, and great Taylor buffoonery (I may have made up a new word;))
Oh I knew her family wasn't going to like him. They're academics. He's so not. Hopefully his charm wins them over.

Eh, Dave was ready to speak, so I let him. :) I was expecting wedding sex though. Apparently he's not ready for that.
Ilove it!
Hee hee. Thanks. :)
Taylor bounded out behind everyone, jabbering about something or other.

I love that you write Taylor like a Golden Retriever.

I was thinking more like a Golden Lab. :P
I picture a dog with long floppy hair "bounding" along, like a Golden Retriever. But the yellow Lab image works, too. For sure!
I've got this picture that labs are more dopey. And for some reason that fits Taylor better in my mind.
Yay for Nate
*pets him*

Oh Lindsie's mom sounds like a bitch D:
Hee hee. I thought you would like that inclusion. ;P

Eh, she kinda seems to be that way now. It doesn't surprise me though.
Awww! It's great to see Lindsie take such wonderful care of Dave. Reading about his morning after almost gave me a headache.

The tattoos sound great. I read about them several times so I could get image in my head right. Good job!!

I have a gun, if we decide to take out Lindsie's mom! Sorry, I get somewhat violent around this time of the month. I promise I will behave, but her mom better back off. ;)

I loved it!! And yay! for more Dave chapters.
Oh I knew she would. He married himself a good woman, whether or not he knows that. ;)

I think the tattoos came out as good or better than I hoped. She's gotta show Dave her back tattoo now...

We're not going to be taking anyone's mom out. Dave will just charm her.
